Already some time ago the wonderful Miri has given me her new book "Tolle Geschenke selbst genäht"  (about sewing presents) to sew something out of it and to do a blog post about my experience. Even though she gave me the book, all the opinions in this post are truely my own! Before I say something about her new book, I want to shortly take the time to tell you how I got to know Miri. In December 2012 I took the book "Noch mehr tolle Taschen selbst genäht" (about sewing bags) out of my bookshelf to check whether there is a pattern that I could use for a notebook case for my mother in law. I stumbled across the author's pic and thought: "That's the mother of J., who is in the same kindergarden as R." I did some blog stalking and it turned out that I was right, I wrote her an email and this was the start of a wonderful friendship :)

So, even before I knew Miri, I was a fan of her books. And now that I know that she is super nice, fun, creative and generous, I enjoy it even more to sew something from her books. It wasn't easy to choose one thing for this post. I will definetly also sew the cosmetic bag, the fabric crown and especially the card holder (for little children who can't hold all the UNO play cards). I further think that the tablet cover (for which I unfortunately don't have a tablet) as well as the neck sausage dog and the cap for men are amazing.

However, first there was christmas and the birthday of a very dear friend of mine. So I decided to do a fabric basket or bowl for jewellery or knick-knack. My friend and her boyfriend live in a beautiful house in the south of Munich. They are big DIY-ers: They built their own shelves, a coatrack out of braches, a key shelf out of driftwood etc. They are not done yet as they choose piece by piece to make something stunning. Also in the bathroom they still want to do some things, but as the tiles and the whole look of the room is maritime, I decided to sew two baskets in blue-tones. They fit the colour scheme and in the bathroom you can't have enough bowl, baskets and similar to put all those little things.

Miriam's explanations are - as always - perfect and the little sketches show exactly what you have to do at the different steps. I was a little bit surprised that the bowl is a difficulty 3 project (highest difficulty). I think I sewed both of them within just 30 minutes. Probably the cutting to more time than the actual sewing which want fast and easy. Btw. I didn't have Decovil (a special interfacing) as asked for in the pattern. I had one of those "I want to sew this right now moments", so I used interfacing only on the lining part. Hence, my bowls didn't turn out as stiff and firm as Miram's, but to me that's not totally crucial.

So, just as I had expected, this is another great book from Miriam and I can really recommend this - and any other of her books. This woman really knows what she does ;)
Do you know any of her books? Which ones do you like best?

    Miriam

PS: Ich schnappe mir einfach mal deine Fotos für meine Pinterest-Sammlung, ja?
