Sweden: Vaxholm Apartment/Schweden: Vaxholm Unterkunft

One of the areas in Sweden that I just HAD to visit was the archipelago at the east coast of Sweden. Inspired by my all time favorite Astrid Lindgren book, „Seacrow Island“ I just knew that these islands are beautiful and special. The archipelago consists of more than 24000 islands ranging in size from just tiny rocks that reach over the sea level up to islands that are several km long and wide. Planning the week at the archipelago turned out to be relatively difficult. We travelled only with public transportation and thus, the island had to be easily accessible. Plus, we needed a grocery store as we couldn't carry much with us (two kids and our luggage was already more than enough).

Eine der Gegenden in Schweden, die ich einfach besuchen musste, war der Schärengarten an der Ostküste. „Ferien auf Saltkrokan“ ist mein Lieblingsbuch von Astrid Lindgren und es hat eine riesen Sehnsucht nach diesen schönen, kargen Inseln in mir geweckt. Der Schärengarten besteht aus mehr als 10000 Inseln, die kleinsten sind grad mal Felsen, die aus dem Wasser ragen, die größten sind mehrere Kilometer lang und breit. Das Planen unserer Woche auf den Schären war recht schwierig. Da wir nur mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln reisten, musste die Insel gut erreichbar sein. Außerdem musste es einen Supermarkt geben, da wir nicht viel mitnehmen konnten. Zwei Kinder und Gepäck reichten schon.

Unfortunately, these conditions ruled out most of the smaller and harder to reach islands. A look at the costs for appartments or little cottages left us with even less possiblities. At the end, we decided (I say we, but basically I did all the planning) to go to Vaxholm. This little town is actually on a peninsula. It's about an hour by ship or bus to Stockholm and almost all the ships to the islands on the archipelago start from there. We considered it a good base for exploring the archipelago. Plus, I had found this charming looking place, Villa Paradis, that was also affordable.

Leider haben diese Bedingungen schon die ganzen kleineren und weiter außen gelegenen Inseln aussortiert. Ein Blick auf die Kosten für Appartments oder Hütten hat uns dann nur noch wenige Möglichkeiten gelassen. Schlussendlich haben wir uns entschieden (ich schreib zwar wir, aber eigentlich hab ich alles geplant) die Woche in Vaxholm zu verbringen. Diese kleine Stadt ist auf einer Halbinsel. Man erreicht sie mit Boot oder Bus in circa einer Stunde von Stockholm. Außerdem fahren fast alle Boote zu den Schäreninseln von dort. Es war also eine gute Basisstation um die Schären zu erkunden. Und außerdem fand ich eine richtig schön aussehende und bezahlbare Übernachtungsmöglichkeit, die Villa Paradis.

I can't even begin to tell you how much we loved this place. This place is basically two little huts (that are connected) in the frontyard of the owner's house. The owner is super nice and she has such a good eye for deocration. These cottages were so cozy and nice! They were a bit small for us four. With the two kids running around it was always quite chaotic, but as the weather was nice, we were able to eat outside and really had an amazing time at this place. I really recommend it! Would be perfect for some days off, just you and your partner. It's really a romantic place!

Was soll ich sagen, wir waren begeistert. Unsere Unterkunft bestand aus zwei Hütten, die durch einen kleinen Gang verbunden sind. Die Hütten sind im Vorgarten der Besitzer. Die Besitzerin ist super nett und hat ein unglaubliches Auge für Deko. Die Hütten waren total gemütlich und schön. Wenn auch etwas klein für uns vier. Wenn die Zwerge rumrannten, konnte es schon etwas chaotisch werden, aber da das Wetter ja immer schön war, haben wir immer draußen gegessen und hatten eine total schöne Zeit in unseren Hütten. Kann ich euch wirklich sehr empfehlen. Wär z.B. auch für ein paar romantische Tage zu zweit absolut perfekt.
